About Us

My name is Mark and I'm the proprietor of MJD Woodworks. Here's a little background on me and my company:

I have had an interest in making things since I was a little kid. I was in awe of my father when he was building things around the house and I paid close attention to him and asked questions about things I didn't understand. This sparked an interest in figuring out how EVERYTHING, in general, worked. I would disassemble and reassemble anything I could get my hands on. I am a curious person and not afraid to experiment and make mistakes.

I have not had a full working wood shop...EVER. I've always dreamed about it but life was busy and it was put on the back burner and almost forgotten. A few years ago, my wife Amy worked in conjunction with my older brother to purchase me an old, vintage shop tool for my birthday. What a great surprise!!! I picked it up and almost killed myself getting it into our garage (the thing is heavy!!!). The little kid in me took over and I disassembled the entire thing, cleaned and lubed everything and put it back together. What a great machine!!! This was the beginning...

Fast forward a few years and I now have a fully working wood shop minus the lathe (not sure I want one). Almost every tool I have purchased was made between early 1900 and 1980 and made in the USA. I have been collecting old barn wood from the area we moved to and have also made friendships with the local Amish families and local sawyers. I refuse to purchase lumber from the "Big Box" stores in order to support our local businesses.

My wife and I are in the process of renovating a 1896 farm house in the village of Pulaski, NY. We love it here and hope to make this our forever home. In the process of renovating our home, I began making small items for my shop or around the house. Check out the section titled Our Products for a glimpse of what we've made so far.
